After Hours
When you call our office after hours you will be given the choice to leave a message for the office when we reopen, or to talk with our telephone answering service. The answering service will, with your permission, have trained nurses from The Children's Hospital call you and answer your questions and help you decide what to do next. If they, or you, decide you should talk to a doctor then the call will be sent to our on-call doctor. He or she will call you back as soon as possible. One of our physicians is always on call to deal with emergencies.
If you have not heard from us within 30 minutes please call the answering service again. Occasionally a wrong number or off hook phone may prevent us from contacting you. Also, make sure you accept blocked calls.
We have office hours year round from 8am through 8pm Monday through Friday, so we can accommodate late well visits and sick visit needs. We will continue to have Saturday office hours of 9am to 11:30am. We request you call to schedule a sick visit rather than walking in, if possible.
Appointments
To help provide timely service to our patients, we prefer to schedule all visits. If you are very late for your appointment, we will try to work you back into the schedule, or perhaps offer an appointment to you with another provider. If you know you are going to be late, try to call us. This helps us to anticipate the delay and make what changes we can to still work you into the schedule.
When you call, our receptionist will ask you a few questions. If you wish to see a particular provider, let us know. If you have multiple problems to discuss with your provider, please let the receptionist know so we can allow an adequate amount of time for your visit. We will usually see your ill child on the day you call for an appointment, but please call as soon as possible. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please notify the office 24 hours in advance so we may offer that time to another patient. If you are more than 10 minutes late we may ask you to reschedule your appointment. We reserve the right to charge for appointments that are missed.
Occasionally, despite our best efforts, we may run late. We will keep you informed so that you have the option of rescheduling your appointment or seeing another provider, if available.
For families looking for a pediatrician we offer twice monthly opportunities to meet our staff and tour our office at no charge. This is an opportunity to learn more about the practice and the providers.
Sick Child Visits
We make every effort to schedule appointments for ill children on the day that you call us. Please call our office ahead of time so that we can minimize the time that you will spend waiting. If you have a medical emergency during office hours, we will do our best to see your child immediately or refer you to the appropriate facility.
Walk-Ins
Patients who walk in with a non-emergency condition will be fit into the existing schedule as best as possible, or they will be asked to return later in the day when the schedule allows.
Emergencies
If an emergency should arise, please call 911. Emergencies are considered to be those conditions that are life-threatening: loss of consciousness, severe bleeding, seizure, etc. In the case of minor emergencies (lacerations, cuts, mild fractures, sprains), please call our office first for instructions.
Well Child Visits
Newborns will be seen daily while in the hospital. The first office visit should be scheduled when your child is 4 to 6 days old. Subsequent exams are recommended at 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year, 15 months, 18 months and 2 years. Well exams are then recommended yearly. We see patients from birth to 21 years of age. Older children may be required to have yearly exams to participate in sports. Regular check-ups are important for the early detection of illnesses and preventing chronic problems. Please call 1-2 months in advance (especially in the summer) to schedule your appointment.
Ask about our 4 to 5 pm well child exam availability for each doctor, as those visits are quite popular.
Saturday Appointments
We are here and open Saturday mornings. We do have one or two physical appointments available on Saturdays for patients that cannot come any other time. Those physical appointments must be scheduled in advance.
Food Policy
Please do not bring food into the office, nor the exam rooms. We try to keep our office cleaned up after each day’s use, but during the day food is a problem. We find it on the floor. When children drop it on the floor, other children pick it up and try to eat it. We thank you for your help in this matter.
